Features, advantages and benefits
FeaturesAdvantagesBenefits
Parallel Sysplex Application Automation Allows for Sysplex-wide grouping of resources, dependencies, and goals that make Parallel Sysplex automation a reality Manage any number of stand-alone systems and clusters from a single point-of-control, even from an easy-to-use Java-based GUI
Policy-Based Self-Healing Reduces complexity, implementation time, coding, and support effort through an automation policy that can be shared or cloned across the enterprise Builds policy more easily using more cloning variables and more predefined and self-configured message rules
Integration Integrates with Tivoli products including IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console, IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager, IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON and IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Provides seamless automation of both system and network resources
SAP High-Availability Automation Provides a high availability management solution for SAP and its related components Combines the concepts of automation, high availability, and transparent failover
Enhanced DB2 Automation Includes DB2 specific automation processing; and DB2 Connection Monitoring by usage of a monitor resource (MTR) to survey ONE connection of CICS-DB2 and/or IMS-DB2.

The ability of a DB2 light start and support for policy driven automation.
Improved ease-of-use by the extension of SA base functionality to include all DB2 automation processing. Usage of real monitors instead of cumbersome Tivoli NetView timers to achieve a timer related monitoring.
Generation of Message Revision Table Single place for all aspects of message definition due to enhancement of the customization dialog so that it automatically generates the Message Revision table based on data stored in the Policy DB. Improved ease-of-use and time-to-value as the administrator no longer needs to know the syntax, semantics and structure of the revision table.
Advanced Relationships New 'PeerOf' relationship means that a dependent resource (A) is a peer of a supporting resource (B). All start or stop votes that are propagated to the supporting resource (B) get copied down to the dependent resource (A) too. Saves configuration time and reduces effort for the system administrator as there is no need to construct an artificial group surrounding these two resources any longer.
Rolling Recycle Provides the ability for a user to request that automation performs a ‘rolling recycle’ of an application group. This consists of sequentially stopping and then restarting each member of a server group so that at the end all members are in the same status than at the beginning of the operation (ACTIVE or STOPPED) Improved ease-of-use and reduced effort for the operator. Only a single action is now required to initiate the rolling recycle to sequentially stop and then restart each member of a server group. Previously, this had to be performed manually, sometimes for each individual group member.
TSRM Integration Using the SA z/OS event alerting infrastructure, gathers additional context related resource information and opens trouble tickets via communication with the Tivoli Directory Integrator (TDI) in case a severe error is detected by SA z/OS that requires human intervention or attention. Improved monitoring and alerting of resources supported by SA z/OS to ensure faster recovery times and an audit trail of required interventions.
Exploit Omnibus for Event Messaging Event notification using SA predefined alert points to trigger events to be sent to Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus and/or TEC. Events can now be distributed to Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus and/or the TECwith full flexibility of using either product as primary event manager. This protects the investment of customers in either Event Management product.
More Data in TEP Tivoli Enterprise Portal is enhanced to provide additional information (workplaces) for Gateway Status, outstanding WTORs and Critical Messages currently going to SDF and NMC only. Improved ease-of-use, via a better display and integration of additional information.
CICS Automation Cleanup & Modernization Extension and real integration of CICS automation in SA for z/OS Improved time-to-value through easier CICS automation by using the base functionality for startup, shutdown, recovery and monitoring of CICS applications
Elimination of ProcOps specific Configuration File Integration of Proc-Ops brought closer to Sys-Ops by using the same control file format (ACF) for processor related data. There will be only one configuration file (ACF) that holds both Sys-Ops and Proc-Ops related data. Faster time to value and improved ease of use as this feature avoids a separate Proc-Ops control file build
Monitoring Exit for USS Resources Enhanced monitoring using start and stop points for USS resources allows a faster display of resource status. Provides an up and down status of USS resources and shows it in INGLIST or DISPSTAT much faster than today.
Captured Message Processing The captured message function in SA z/OS will be enhanced to provide a table with all exceptional messages captured by SA z/OS. Improved user interface providing the display of exceptional messages in SDF, NMC and TEC.
