Benefits of Carbon Footprint optimization
The Carbon Footprint features within IBM ILOG LogicNet Plus XE meets industry demands for both green logistics optimization technology and standardized processes and methodologies to support green initiatives.
Incorporates standard (default) data on carbon emissions in plants, warehouses and various modes of transportation, helping companies get a head start on their carbon footprint assessments.
Provides reporting capabilities to help users compare the carbon emission levels of different supply chain configurations.
Allows companies to optimize their logistics networks by incorporating government-imposed caps on carbon dioxide as well as financial incentives for buying or selling credits. Carbon footprint calculations and optimization capabilities help define the tradeoffs between various production and distribution facility options, as well as transportation modes in particular.
The Carbon Footprint capabilities of IBM ILOG LogicNet Plus XE can be used in three ways:
For reporting:
Calculate CO2 emissions associated with supply chain activities
Optimize the supply chain for lowest total cost, or maximum total profit.
Factor the total carbon footprint into decision making.
As a constraint:
Calculate CO2 emissions associated with supply chain activities
Set the maximum total carbon footprint (in metric tons) the supply chain is not to exceed.
Optimize the supply chain for lowest total cost or maximum total profit, while adhering to the constraints on the carbon footprint.
For Cap and Trade:
Calculate CO2 emissions associated with supply chain activities.
Set the maximum total carbon footprint (in metric tons) the supply chain is not to exceed. Enter carbon credit purchase/sale price used if the footprint is under/over the cap.
Optimize the supply chain for maximum total profit, including the purchase or sale of carbon credits.
Key Carbon Footprint optimization features
IBM ILOG LogicNet Plus XE Carbon Footprint functionality includes standardized, comprehensive and up-to-date data from the United States Government and the World Resources Institute. Data embedded in the software includes:
Carbon emissions by fuel type
Average fuel efficiency values
Carbon-freight factors for waterborne and rail transport
Electricity emissions factors by U.S. state and country
Electricity consumption by building characteristics
Building size, geographic region, number of workers, principal activity, year constructed, etc
