Overview
IBM Rational Requirements Composer provides rich requirements definition capability combined with the power of requirements management analysis functionality in a single Web-based application. Built on the Jazz Team Server. Rational Requirements Composer supports many types of development teams using iterative, waterfall, and agile-at-scale development methodologies using light-weight requirements processes. In addition to this, teams working with other Rational application lifecycle management products (Rational Team Concert, Rational Quality Manager) will enjoy a closer integration and consistent work experience using requirements management practices to enforce and drive development and test.
| Features | Benefits |
|---|---|
| Collaborative Application Lifecycle Management (CLM) Integrations (Rational Team Concert, Rational Quality Manager, Rational ClearQuest) | Align development and test activities with your business priorities and requirements. Requirements can be linked and traced end-to-end to test cases and development work items using lifecycle relationship links. This allows project stakeholders to discover changes, understand the impact and keep project data accurate. The Jazz platform takes integration to a whole new level and is now seamlessly integrated (built in the Web) with CLM products using the latest Open Services for Lifecycle Colaboration capabilities. |
| Rich Text Requirements Authoring and Editing | Consolidate unstructured information (rich text, images, tables and link from internal and external documents) with easy Web based document creation and editing. Embed artifacts (diagrams, sketches) to create concise and clear vision and requirement specification documents. Using this editor, requirements stakeholders from any development discipline will be able to organize and document critical project requirements based on their desired template style and layout supported by a repository wide glossary. |
| Organize and Find Requirements | IBM Rational Requirements Composer supports requirement collections, shared filters, tags, attributes, hyperlinks and advanced searches to help you find and organize requirements and related information. These features help manage and improve project productivity and increase reuse. |
| Business Process Diagrams | Many IT projects work to enhance business process, and develop a good understanding of the business needs and goals.. Using a select subset of business process modeling notation and a simple native editor, users create, share and validate current and future state business processes, including roles, rules, tasks, and decision points. Link business process diagram elements, tasks, and decision points to use cases, UI sketches, and text requirements. Allow stakeholders to visualize how various inputs, outputs, and roles can work together to execute processes that create value for the business. Then link other requirements artifacts to this business process to create a traceable requirements project. |
| User Interface Sketching | Express user interfaces (UIs) with wire frame mock-ups through a UI Sketch editor. Create mock-ups and workflow examples for web-based interactions that link any UI component to rich document descriptions and requirements. Visualize system transactions and interactions as the user would, identify user experience issues prior to costly web-development. |
| User Interface Storyboards | Storyboards are a common, proven technique in film-making: a fast, inexpensive way of communicating ideas; finding points of consensus, disagreement, and ambiguity; then making decisions. Requirements definition and solution design are highly iterative and likewise benefits from this kind of visual expression of user scenarios. Both non-technical and technically-minded stakeholders can readily grasp the relevance of the storyboarded scenarios, and this can raise the quality of the requirements elicitation and validation conversations beyond what typically happens during textual document reviews. Quickly assemble UI storyboards in Requirements Composer from sketches using reusable components and templates. Make fast, consistent changes, which are propagated automatically. Link any UI element to other documents and requirements |
| Use Case Models | Create use case diagrams that capture system behavior. Elaborate use cases with rich document descriptions. Link use cases diagrams with use case specifications, user interfaces sketches, storyboards, process flows and text written requirements. |
| Traceability And Analysis | Team members can use system or custom defined link types to manage the traceability relationship between requirements artifacts. They can use OSLC links to trace requirements to development work items and test cases to enable development, show dependence, and prove compliance. Then multi-level traceability visualization (tree and table views) dynamically gives users in Rational Requirements Composer the ability to expose requirement coverage gaps and realize change impact in a development process by exposing requirements traced to each other as well as other lifecycle elements (test and development work items). |
| Project Glossaries | Unify teams and remove ambiguity that leads to errors by using common, integrated project glossaries. Support multiple glossaries to capture enterprise and project-level terms. Includes support for: search, synonyms, and related terms. Link to glossary terms from anywhere there is text using built-in content assistance tools. |
| Requirements Analysis (Filtering, Sorting And Query) | Requirements stakeholders using filters, sorting, tagging, and views will be able to dynamically display current requirements content and enforce key management tasks. Tasks like prioritizing requirements, reporting and identifying specific requirement owners, relative development cost for a group of requirements, or all requirements identified for a specific release (just to name a few). |
| Audit Change History | Identifying change to requirements is a critical part of requirements analysis and change impact assessment. Composer will now track changes to visual and textual requirements information as part of the artifact's audit trail. This can be used to revert to a previous version or help in the requirement assessment process. |
| Information Import and Export | Project teams can use existing requirements from Documents and Spreadsheets created offline and away from the project database. Users can import requirements documents from Microsoft Word into native Rational Requirements Composer rich text format. They can export a requirement artifact from Rational Requirements Composer to a Microsoft Word document. Additionally, users can import from and export to spreadsheets using comma-separated text (csv) files, including associated attribute values. |
| Requirement Collections and Snapshots | Define scope and manage change using collections and baseline snapshots. Create baselines to track your development progress and milestones. Rational Requirements Composer allows you to return to specific versions of artifacts, their links and comments at the time a snapshot was created. |
| Requirements Reuse For Parallel Requirements Development | Using a single or many requirement artifacts your development team can use one version of an artifact in one project iteration while someone is further elaborating it for the next iteration. As a change is made against one requirement it can quickly be reflected in other requirements that reused and borrowed from the original requirement. |
| Reports And Document Generation | Provide high quality reports from your data warehouse or generate documents based on the live data from your requirements driven projects using Rational Publish Engine. Using out-of-the-box reports and custom templates, high quality documents and reports can be generated based on requirements change, traceability, or trends (to name a few). based on Rational Publishing Engine and Cognos technology. A reporting wizard guides you in creating these reports in common file formats, including Microsoft Word, PDF, HTML, and XSL formatting objects (XSL-FO). |
| Dashboards | Discover critical project information without asking for it using the dashboard. Requirements Composer includes user and project dashboards. Web dashboards include customizable viewlets, which can provide dynamic information from multiple tools (Requirements Composer, Team Concert, Quality Manager). See the latest comments for you or for the whole team; see new and recent changes in the project artifacts. |
| Review and Approval Workflow | Review and approval enables your teams to achieve consensus and validate requirements faster by shortening the review and approval cycles. The customizable user dashboards and viewlets provide collective information about project membership, recent activity, recent requirements, collaboration, and reviews. Commenting capabilities include direct comments to multiple users. |
| Open and Flexible Team Collaboration | To achieve better quality requirements through global team collaboration, Rational Requirements Composer will provide team members a dynamic way to discuss and collaborate and formally review requirements, use cases, and diagrams supported by email notification for updates for customers, analysts, developers, testers, and operations/production. Make requirements and related business context visible to the extended team -- including those who join the team later. Have group conversations in threaded comments; see what others are creating, changing and commenting on. Include in this web of requirements information files created by the tools you use today: office documents, recording of conference calls, and informal documentation (for example, snapshots of white boards). |
