DB2 Office Connect est un module d'extension de Microsoft Excel, qui permet d'interroger et de mettre à jour des bases de données. Il crée des feuilles de calcul qui sont mises à jour de manière dynamique et qui envoient de manière transparente des requêtes SQL à des entrepôts de données IBM ou à pratiquement toute autre source de données compatible JDBC. Grâce à cet outil de connexion de troisième génération, les utilisateurs manipulent les données à volonté dans un environnement familier et convivial, en l'occurrence une feuille de calcul. Ils peuvent créer leurs propres rapports à l'aide de fonctionnalités de glisser-déplacer, sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'être expert en programmation d'applications.

Les applications Microsoft Excel Web sécurisées peuvent être déployées avec un investissement minimum en temps et en ressources. Ces modèles de feuilles de calcul centralisées peuvent être mis à disposition sur l'intranet de l'entreprise ou sur Internet dans un environnement sécurisé.
