IBM® Compiler and Library for REXX™ on zSeries® are a high-level language compiler and runtime library.
This combination of compiler and library facilitates your REXX scripting and System z application development and runtime.
- The compiler translates REXX source programs into compiled programs and the runtime library houses routines that are called by the compiled programs
- Both the compiler and the library provide efficient systems management
- Both support error checking
- Both provide information during debugging
- Both increase flexibility
- The compiler, library and compiled programs run on z/OS® using TSO/E and under CMS on z/VM®
- Separate licenses are available for Compiler for REXX on zSeries, Library for REXX on zSeries, and Alternate Library for REXX on zSeries (a free download.)

Compiler for REXX™ on zSeries®: Translates REXX source programs into compiled programs and is available in two forms: Compiler for REXX on z/OS® and Compiler for REXX on z/VM®
Library for REXX on zSeries: Executes the compiled programs and is available in two forms: Library for REXX on z/OS and Library for REXX on z/VM
Alternate Library for REXX on zSeries: Contains a language processor that transforms compiled programs and runs them with the REXX interpreter, which ships as part of the z/OS and z/VM operating systems. Users who do not have the Library for REXX on zSeries installed can then run compiled REXX programs

System requirements
The Compiler and Library for REXX on zSeries (TM) Release 4 are available for z/OS (TM) and z/VM (R). In addition, code compiled on these platforms can be run on VSE/ESA (TM) if REXX/VSE is installed.
