Optim Database Administrator helps you manage databases and database changes without disruption, streamlining change-in-place as well as database migration scenarios. Built-in analysis and mitigation features prevent application outages by ensuring that all related objects are migrated, assure performance by ensuring indexes are updated, and facilitate availability by ensuring privileges are migrated.

Optim Database Administrator:

Provides easy task initiation for common database administration tasks including object, utilities, command, and configuration management. Commands can be run immediately, saved to a script to be run later, or saved to a script that is compatible for scheduling for offline execution from the data server.

Supports seamless transition from logical to physical design via integration with InfoSphere Data Architect. Automates forward and reverse schema engineering between models, the database, and DDL.

Facilitates impact and dependency analysis to mitigate risk of application outages. Finds dependencies among data objects to understand how proposed changes might impact other related objects.

Maintains the integrity of the database by generating commands that respect referential integrity relationships, preserve table data, privileges, and all dependent objects and allows you to undo changes quickly if necessary.

Accelerates complex structural changes by automating extended alters that require dropping and re-creating objects and data preservation. You can choose how data is preserved during change deployment with the ability to either store data outside the database or store data inside the database using a shadow table. You can also transform the data unloaded and map columns when reloading. Built-in integration simplifies use with Optim High Performance Unload. Unlike other products data is persevered on the database server and not routed through the client.

Simplifies promoting changes from development to test or test to production.

Compare two databases to find out if anything is different or missing. This is especially helpful for problem determination.

Supports large enterprises with:

  • Federated Support – enables federated objects, such as wrappers, nicknames and user mappings, to be changed.

  • DB2 Command Line Processor (CLP) Generated Scripts - generates change management scripts in a format that is compatible with CLP.

  • Large Database Support - provides overall scalability and performance enhancements for environments with large volumes of objects.

Improves performance by generating maintenance utility commands such as runstats and reorg. Reduces the impact on production by leveraging the unload speed and repartitioning capabilities of Optim High Performance Unload directly through the Optim Database Administrator user interface.

Enables fast error correction in the event that deployment errors occur providing undo, partial undo, and restart.

Facilitates team collaboration and audit readiness enabling you to:

  • Document a complete history of changes, including scripts, models, logs, and reports to capture the entire change from start to finish

  • Integrate with the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform V7.5 and IBM Rational ClearCase (or other eclipse-based configuration management system) to simplify archival of data design projects

  • Define database connections once and share with users of Optim Database Administrator, Optim Development Studio, InfoSphere Data Architect and Optim Query Tuner

Use Optim Database Administrator to:

  • Compare, synchronize, copy, clone, or merge database schema definitions from the source to the target
