Features and benefits
IBM WebSphere® XML Document Management Server is a high performance server that offers an application-independent and service-independent way to manage XML documents of any type, including group lists, user profiles, contact information, authorization rules, and policy data.
- WebSphere XML Document Management Server benefits
- Improve the user experience by enabling customers to reuse information such as group lists, profiles and preferences across applications.
- Facilitate efforts to get to market quickly by using standardized data access mechanisms for XML-based information.
- Simplify management by centrally managing information from multiple vendors’ applications, using IETF, OMA, ETSI and 3GPP standards.
- Support legacy and next-generation services.
- Application and service independent
WebSphere XML Document Management Server (XDMS) enables the integration of XML-based information across applications and services. For example, group information from one vendor’s instant messaging application can be displayed and updated in another vendor’s contact book application. This degree of flexibility supports efforts to simplify and improve the customer experience for end users. And service providers can facilitate integration of new applications and services without recreating common information.
- Support any XML document type
WebSphere XDMS can store and manage any XML document type. Examples of XML documents commonly used for services are:- Group lists
- User profiles
- Contact information
- Authorization rules
- Policy data
CSPs and third party vendors can expand the capabilities by adding additional document types. For example, a provider could enable all of its applications to utilize common contact highlights documents. WebSphere XDMS also includes pre-built document frameworks based on OMA standards, including Shared XDMS, RLS XDMS, Content and Presence XDMS.
Legacy and next generation network support
WebSphere XDMS supports HTTP-based XML Configuration Access Protocol (XCAP) for document management and retrieval. It also supports Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for subscriptions to and notifications of document changes. WebSphere XDMS can interact with service provider IMS networks through standards-based connections to IMS control plane elements, including IMS service control (ISC), Diameter interfaces, and SIP.Standards compliant
WebSphere XDMS complies with Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards. As a result, it helps providers achieve widespread integration between multi-vendor applications, devices and network infrastructure. This compliance has been tested through interoperability events as well as direct interoperability testing with Network Equipment Providers, application vendors, and service providers.Interoperability with WebSphere Presence Server
WebSphere XDMS supports interoperability with any standards-based application or enabler, including WebSphere Presence Server. WebSphere XDMS can store presence-related information such as group lists and presence authorization rules documents. Since it is standards compliant, WebSphere XDMS can interoperate with either the WebSphere Presence Server or the presence server of another vendor.WebSphere Telecom Web Services Server for Parlay X Web Services
WebSphere XDMS can also be extended to support Web service interfaces through an external enabler. WebSphere Telecom Web Services Server can interoperate with WebSphere XDMS to provide Parlay X 2.1 web services for Address List Management. WebSphere Telecom Web Services Server enables carriers to provide third-party application developers with web services access to network services such as address list, presence, and location via a single, common entry point.IBM next-generation services platform for CSPs
WebSphere Presence Server is part of the IBM next-generation services platform for CSPs, which provides a flexible, IP-based service execution environment. Based upon the principles of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), WebSphere IMS Connector, WebSphere Presence Server, WebSphere Telecom Web Services Server, and WebSphere XML Document Management Server deliver a new set of IP-based modular service enablers to help accelerate the delivery of next generation communications services. Based upon the high-performance WebSphere Application Server platform, which provides a fully converged SIP-HTTP execution platform, these modular service enablers help minimize the cost and time to deliver rich composite services to market.
