Metadata Workbench provides visual Web-based exploration of information assets generated and used by IBM Information Server modules. It provides comprehensive reporting on data movement, data lineage, business meaning, and impact of changes and dependencies across IBM Information Server modules and third-party tools.

Metadata Workbench is a client-based solution that adds to an existing IBM Information Server environment, providing enhanced metadata visibility and reporting for that environment. Metadata Workbench extends the visibility of metadata across IBM Information Server product modules and to external third-party tools. This allows complete end-to-end metadata visualization.

The key functions of Metadata Workbench include:

• Easy navigation of key information assets through visual tooling, simple and advanced search, or ad hoc queries.
• Complete visual analysis of end-to-end lineage of information across tools.
  Impact analysis visualization across tools.
• Reporting on the linkage of business terms to technical information assets.
  Administration functions for metadata, including reporting and reconciliation.

Metadata Workbench is a new product in the IBM Information Server family that enhances the metadata utility of the platform. It replaces some of the cross-tool impact analysis and lineage reporting functions previously found in WebSphere MetaStage.
