Modern development tools for mainframe application development
IBM Rational® Developer for System z with Java is a unified development tool for enterprise applications on System z in environments such as CICS, IMS, IBM DB2, IBM WebSphere® Application Server, Compute Grid, and Batch. Rational Developer for System z lets you develop mainframe applications, including traditional COBOL, PL/I, C/C++; Assembler applications; Java and Java Enterprise Edition applications; web services; Web 2.0 applications; Java Batch application in Compute Grid; and XML-based interfaces linking to the web.
- z/OS application development: Provides development and maintenance tools for z/OS applications and Microsoft Windows applications.
- CICS and IMS support: Enables you to create composite processing that integrates traditional mainframe CICS or IMS transactional applications and WebSphere–based environments.
- Web services: Creates and maintains mainframe applications and web services before, during, and after the transition to a SOA-based environment.
- Integrations: Integrates with other software to provide source code control.
- Java development: Provides visual layout tools to help you write Java Server Faces (JSF), JavaServer Pages (JSP), and HTML and includes a wizard to develop servlet and page handler code.
z/OS application development
- Rational Developer for System z includes a visually configurable editor and statement assisted creation, and verification of syntax for COBOL, PL/I, C, C++, High-Level Assembler, and Java languages.
- You can access IBM AIX, z/OS, Linux for System z, x86 Linux Servers, and z/OS UNIX file systems; submit z/OS jobs; monitor z/OS job execution queues; and debug artifacts.
CICS and IMS support
- The Service Flow feature lets you develop a web service that collects and processes data from multiple sources, such as programs, screens, databases, and web service invokable processing.
- Rational Developer for System z provides tooling to assist in modeling, generating, configuring, and deploying the components to the CICS V4.1 environment.
Web services
- Rational Developer for System z offers Enterprise Service Tools, an integrated perspective that helps you create a CICS web service, an IMS SOAP gateway web service, and a web service that is not runtime specific.
- Rational Developer for System z enables you to reuse and transform existing applications, making them accessible as web services.
- You can create, view, edit, and validate WSDL, document-type definitions (DTD), and XML schemas and transform XML documents into text, HTML, or other XML document types.
- Rational Developer for System z integrates relational databases and XML.
Integrations
- Rational Developer for System z integrates with IBM Rational Team Concert for System z, IBM Rational ClearCase, IBM Software Configuration and Library Management (SCLM) Toolkit, and CA Endevor Software Change Manager.
- You can access customized JCL or TSO commands from the workstation to take advantage of existing System z tools in use on the mainframe.
- You can adapt and extend the development environment with Eclipse-based plug-ins.
- You can integrate with IBM Rational Host Access Transformation Services, IBM Debug Tool, IBM File Manager, and IBM Fault Analyzer.
Java development
- Visual layout tools help you write Java Server Faces (JSF), JavaServer Pages (JSP), EGL Web UI, EGL Rich UI, and HTML.
- Rational Developer for System z includes a wizard to develop servlet and page handler code and includes graphic design software for producing static and animated output.
- You can create web applications from database queries and beans.
- This software supports J2EE coding and deployment.
